From the United Methodist Chaplain

Grace to you and peace,

On behalf of the United Methodist-Protestant Community, I want to welcome you to our community and to American University.

College is a time of challenging understandings, rethinking old ideas, and growing in our understandings of our selves and our relation to the world. I invite you to become a part of a community that is open, accepting, and never afraid to take on tough issues or to ask hard questions. We are made up of people who wish to grow in their relationships with God, challenge their faith, increase their spiritual disciplines, and learn new ways to live out their faith in the community and with each other.

Our community is open to all people of whatever religious or denominational background–or no religious background at all. We believe that faith is a journey we walk together as we seek to understand the love of God as revealed in Jesus Christ and what it means to be his disciples.

We are a community that supports each other in good times and bad, through our joys and our sorrows, through times of confidence and times of doubt and uncertainty. We are a community of seekers, never afraid to ask questions or to challenge our traditional understandings of faith, believing that an unexamined faith is not a healthy faith. This makes us an ideal community for people seeking understandings of faith for the first time or for mature Christians who seek to keep their faith vibrant and fresh.

I invite you to be a part of our community and to walk the journey of faith with us.

Yours in Christ,

Joey Heath
