United Methodist/Protestant Community Interest Form

This interest form was created to help those interested in getting involved in UMSA and some form of service or leadership in the United Methodist-Protestant Community. We want everyone to feel comfortable getting involved where they are called to do so, and hopefully this form will help out. There are the four elected positions which will be voted for on April 20th immediately after service in the chapel and there are many other forms of ministry in which you can get involved in. Also the UMSA will appoint people to already existing non-elected positions such Hospitality Coordinator, Interfaith rep, and others.

Other Ministries

Social Justice and Other Six Days programs This committee leads our social justice efforts and helps plan our Other Six Days program that focuses on different issues of justice and service. This committee is also active in working with other social justice groups on campus such as the CASJ Coalition, University Chaplain’s office, and other religious groups such as Jewish Student Association to name a few.
Worship Plans our weekly Sunday and Thursday services and also helps in planning special services throughout the year. We write the prayers, pick the hymns, and help to organize other forms of leadership through worship.
Fellowship of Sound (Choir) This group is our joyful noise who sings at our Sunday night service. We are always seeking to build our musical experience in our worship through choir and instrumental music.
Fundraising This committee which is currently a joint committee with the social justice committee focuses on fundraising for UMSA and social justice efforts. We have raised money by selling fair trade chocolate, having a pizza party for Hurricane Relief, and other efforts. This is a growing ministry and financial leadership is important to the development of this community.
Christian Education This area involves educating the community and the university through bible studies and Covenant Discipleship but we are seeking to expand this program to reach out to more people in the Methodist/Protestant Community and the campus as a whole. We would like to see more students lead educational groups such as book, topic focused studies, and bible studies, sustain our Covenant Discipleship groups, and provide more educational events on campus.
Interfaith Although there is a specific representative to the Interfaith Council, we are always seeking more members to reach out to other faith communities both as the representative to the council and through other means.
Hospitality and Outreach These two areas focus on both creating opportunities for fellowship and communication for the community and providing opportunities for people to get together and have fun and create bonds within the community and with other groups on campus.
There are outreach and hospitality directors but even if you do not take on one of these roles we always need more people.
Newsletter We have an awesome monthly newsletter and we always need people to write articles, come up with new ideas for it, and help produce it!!!!
Men's/Women's Group We have two groups for men and women to come together in fellowship and grow in faith. Each offers a safe space for participants to share and discuss important aspects of faith.
Other forms of ministry Although these are areas we have already identify as needing leadership we can always open up new forms of ministry and we always need more involvement in current ministries and programs!

Do you have any ideas for new forms of ministry?

What else can we do to help you get more involved in this community and for us to be more inclusive?
