Holy Week 2008

Palm Sunday
Sunday, March 16, 7:00 p.m. Kay Chapel

The service begins with the Triumphal Entry into Jerusalem and concludes with the reading of a Passion Play. Palms will be distributed.

Maundy Thursday
Communion 11:00 p.m.
Thursday, March 20, Kay Chapel

A communion service in commemoration of Jesus' Last Supper with his disciples. The service continues with a service of Tenebrae, wherein the story of the Passion is proclaimed as a series of fourteen candles is extinguished.

This is the first service of what is called the "Triduum"--the three days before Easter: Holy Thursday, Good Friday, Holy Saturday

 

Good Friday

A continuation of the Triduum from Holy Thursday. The service is a reflection on the Last Words of Jesus from the Cross.

 

Holy Saturday
Easter Vigil

12 midnight Saturday night, Kay Chapel

The conclusion of the Triduum with a vigil at midnight Saturday night. The vigil consists of the recitation of God's saving work throughout Israel's history followed by a proclamation of the Risen Christ and the singing of the first "Alleluias" since Ash Wednesday.

The sunrise service greets the rising of the Son with the rising of the sun. A simple service of reflection on the Biblical story and the singing of Easter Hynms.

Brass, organ, and lots of "Alleluias"! A celebration of the Risen Christ at our regular worship time
